On Thursday 14 January 2021 Samsung Electronics Company Ltd released its new Flagship, the first on-screen Galaxy S smartphone with a stylus the S Pen, more than a month ahead of the normal annual release schedule for its premium portable handset models.
Experts also said that selling a stylus could signal the South Korean tech giant to integrate the S line with its other leading smartphone range, the Note, already fitted with a note-taking stylus, within the Galaxy S21 series. That could free up money for Samsung as sufficiently substantial goods rather than specialized gadgets to drive its separate line of high-end foldable phones.
Since China's Huawei Technologies was hit with U.S. sanctions that reduced its production and harmed sales, experts think, Samsung is now looking to grab market share.
An early Samsung new Flagship Galaxy S21 release, said Counterpoint Research analyst Sujeong Lim, is a likely ploy to capitalize on the woes of Huawei. The Note's new iterations usually occur in the second period of the year.
In the high-end group of Chinese sellers, Lim said Samsung faces extreme rivalry in the increasing market for smartphones that can be used for working remotely in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, as well as playing video gaming.
The price of Samsung's new Flagship Galaxy S21 starts at $799.99, S21 Plus at $999.99, and S21 Ultra at $1,199.99.
The series will be commonly available via Samsung.com, carriers, and online retailers beginning Jan. 29, Samsung said.
The S21 is 5G compliant and designed for filming and displaying video and photographs as well as on-screen work with the most sophisticated processing chip in any Galaxy system. The Ultra - the only edition compatible with the S Pen stylus to be ordered separately - features a four-lens camera on the back that requires various angles and zoom shots at the top end of the spectrum.
Samsung plans to sell the stylus with the other products, TM Roh, head of the mobile communications company for Samsung, said.
The display size of the new Flagship regular S21 is 6.2 inches, with 6.7 inches for the S21 Plus and 6.8 inches for the S21 Super, suitable for streaming videos and gaming. The last two are similar in size to the 'phablets' of last year's Galaxy Note - a cross between a handset and a tablet.
